MY NEW BLOG

I am delighted to launch my new BLOG and website.  I will continue to use Facebook for all my close family and friends. And I hope you will explore TWITTER where I regularly tweet to the world.

This is my special website where you will be able to see all the news about my latest works, shows and projects.

I am featuring a wonderful photograph taken by Barbara Adams the Oak Bay Municipality Arts Laureate. She photographed my iron sculpture known as the Salish Sea, at a very special day and time. It was taken at sunrise around 05:14 a.m. on June 21, 2015, the summer solstice which is on National Aboriginal Day.  You see how the sun is rising over San Juan Island seen through the eye of my Orca in the sculpture.

This website not only keeps you current with all my news, it also hosts my own store where you can look at and buy most of my prints. You will be able to purchase all my work here, as a gift for yourself,  for a valued friend, a loved  one  or even as a gift or award for a work colleague.  You will be surprised just how reasonable a signed print can be, and I know that once you own my work  we will be forever “connected”.

My latest piece has just been installed outside the Oak Bay Municipal Hall, in Victoria, BC, Canada as part of their 2015 Walk of the Arts event.

RESUME/CV

Chris Paul’s career has been shaped by time spent at the Ksan Gitanmaax School of West Coast Art in Northern BC and subsequently by a two year apprenticeship with prominent artist, Roy Henry Vickers.

Early in his career he concentrated on graphic work in the form of original paintings on drums and limited edition prints. Using a wide palate of colours he celebrated many subjects including family life, traditional songs and the native plants that grew around his home land.

Currently in addition to woodcarving he is further exploring cultural themes with the use of contemporary materials such as metal glass and composite. His designs are characterized by bold and innovative design and refinement of finish, often using semi transparent washes that highlight the qualities of the medium used.

Works of note:

  • Completed in 2007, a major commission in etched glass. This work can be viewed at the Sidney Pier Hotel.

  • As part of the artist residence program at UVIC Chris Paul completed the silkscreen series called “Conservation” which can be viewed at Legacy Gallery until January 10th as party of their exhibition, Salish Reflection: Coast Salish Art and Artists on Campus.

  • Paul’s graphic work was used extensively in the set décor for the television series Greys Anatomy.

  • In 2007, Chris completed a commission for the Sidney Pier Hotel and Spa. This project resulted in the creation of three large scale etched glass panels for the lobby of the hotel, as well as smaller panels placed in each of the hotel’s 55 rooms.

  • In 2014, Chris’s “Salish Sea”, Iron Sculpture, was purchased by the Municipality of Oak Bay, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and quickly became an icon for the town and for the whole concept of “The Salish Sea“.

  • By 2015, Chris’s International reputation was growing rapidly. The Cattle Point Foundation commissioned him to name the artist proof of the “Salish Sea” giclee, under the title “Life is a Cosmic Phenomenon”. On Canada Day, July 1, 2015, the artists proof was donated to Churchill College, Cambridge University in the UK, to commemorate the work of two great Commonwealth scientists.

  • In August 2015, a second giclee (2/5) was presented to the International Research Centre University of Peradeniya, Kandy, Sri Lanka in commemoration of the Astrobiology Research Conference – August 21-23, 2015 and its theme “The Transition from Earth-centred Biology to Cosmic Biology”.
